Pure Water Treatment Systems

Beverage, casting and coating, textile, pharmaceutical, medical, chemical, cosmetics, automotive... The list truly goes on. All these different industries have one requirement in common: pure water with controllable and stable quality.

Pure water refers to water that has been largely purified of minerals and dissolved ions and has low conductivity. In short, we aim to remove the salt load and unwanted ions that may negatively affect your process.

At Vatek Water Treatment Systems, the clearest fact we observe in the field is this: Every facility has a different raw water source, operating structure, and level of process sensitivity. Therefore, we do not approach our pure water treatment systems as “standard equipment”; instead, we design them specifically according to the characteristics of the raw water and process requirements.

What Do We Do for Pure Water?

We provide turnkey contracting services including project design, installation, and commissioning for custom designed pure water treatment systems. We also supply consumables and spare parts for existing systems and offer professional solutions through our technical service team.

As a company that manufactures pure water systems and installs them worldwide, the purpose of pure water treatment systems can be briefly described as purifying water by removing mineral salts, positively charged cations, and negatively charged anions.

Which Technologies Are Used for Pure Water Treatment?

Depending on your raw water source mains water, well water, surface water, etc. and water quality, we use multiple technologies together in our pure water treatment systems. We evaluate each project individually and select the most suitable combination.

  Double Pass Reverse Osmosis Systems

In the first RO stage, most of the salt load in the water is retained. In the second stage, conductivity is reduced even further to obtain much “purer” water. This is one of our preferred solutions for sensitive applications where single pass RO is insufficient in terms of conductivity.

Anion Cation Resin Columns (Ion Exchange Systems)

The main purpose of these systems is to exchange dissolved ions cations and anions in water with the ions held by the resin. This significantly reduces the total ionic load of the water.
In other words, it is a chemical treatment stage that “simplifies” the water in terms of its ionic content. The unit that removes cations is called a Cation Exchanger, while the unit that removes anions is called an Anion Exchanger. A unit containing both types of resin and removing both anionic and cationic ions is called a Mixed Bed Ion Exchanger (Mixbed).

   Mixed-Bed Resin Systems

These systems contain both cationic and anionic resins mixed together in a single column. They are used in applications where conductivity must be reduced to extremely low levels and more sensitive water quality is required. Mixbed systems are used after reverse osmosis systems and anion cation columns in processes that require lower conductivity in the product water. Mix Bed systems can be designed as disposable systems for low capacities or used with automatic washing units in high capacity systems.

Deionization and Mix Bed systems are used to meet the demand for deionized water in industrial facilities and special applications. Deionization is the process of removing minerals in other words, cation and anion ions from water.

Project Specific Calculations

Calculation of Resin Quantities

One of the most critical aspects of pure water and deionized water systems is the correct calculation of the resin quantity.

The amount of resin used in the systems is calculated specifically for each project according to the inlet water conductivity and the exchange capacity of the resin. At Vatek Water Treatment Systems, we carefully examine raw water analyses during the design stage and determine resin volumes and regeneration intervals through engineering calculations. This enables us to avoid both oversized and costly systems and weak designs that would lose performance within a short period.

Types of Mixbed Systems

Mix Bed systems can be configured in different forms according to their capacity and method of use:

Disposable Mixbed Systems for Low Capacities

These systems are particularly preferred when the flow rate is low and establishing a regeneration infrastructure is not economically feasible. The resin is used for a specific period and is completely replaced once its capacity is exhausted. They are suitable for smaller-scale solutions that are simpler to maintain and operate and require a lower investment.

High-Capacity Mixbed Systems with Automatic Washing and Regeneration Units

This is the configuration we most frequently encounter in medium and large scale industrial facilities. In these systems, the resins are automatically regenerated using suitable chemicals, washed, and prepared for reuse. Operator intervention is minimized, providing more stable and sustainable operation.

The correct option is determined according to your facility’s flow rate, operating duration, chemical usage preferences, and operating practices.
